Having grown up in a family of physicians, Dr. Franklin chose to focus on psychology for two reasons: “I believe in the power of the narratives we learn and tell ourselves,” she says, “and I also believe that we aren’t meant to do life alone. I became a psychologist to partner with people in changing their narratives in tangible, meaningful ways to improve their emotional and physical health.”

In her work with older adults, she plays many roles: she is a listener, an ally, a safe, compassionate source of care, and “someone who can temporarily hold things that have become too heavy while we figure out a strategy to manage them together.” Whether through individual or group therapy, she says, “I enjoy helping people recognize their strength, abilities and values.”

Dr. Franklin earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Baylor University in Texas, and her master’s degree and doctorate in counseling psychology at the University of Kansas. She completed her internship at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and her residency at the Leavenworth VA Medical Center in Kansas. She became board certified in geropsychology in July of 2022.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Franklin enjoys being with her wife, family, friends and furry children, Winston and Penelope. Visits to her favorite lake back home in Missouri, playing board games and tasting food from other cultures are some of her favorite pastimes.
