After 25 years working in private practice with individuals of all ages, I now specialize in geriatric psychology.  I provide both consultation and therapy for older adults and their family members and I also offer support and direction for those providing caregiving for older adults.  Therapy and consultation include help with: mental health care for issues such as anxiety, depression, and substance abuse; coordinating appropriate evaluations to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment; adjusting to medical conditions that alter your life; responding to chronic and terminal illness; end of life issues; traumatic loss and change and major life transitions.  I can help you navigate changes of all kinds, so that you, the older adult, can maintain appropriate independence and the best possible relationships with those you care about.  If you are a Caregiver, you will find help with navigating the challenges involved in supporting your loved one. Caregivers have their own unique needs, and I understand how to help you meet those needs.   Our work together can address issues such as: having the difficult but necessary conversations that accompany this stage of life; navigating long term care options; providing appropriate care for your loved one with dementia; helping your family adjust to caregiving; facing change, grief or loss; helping you care for yourself so that you maintain your health and energy.

I believe that not being in control of a situation is not the same thing as being helpless.  Finding support through consultation or therapy can help you come to terms with the transitions of aging – in the most positive and successful ways.
